We at Want Driving Lessons like to keep up to date with what’s happening in the motoring world- but especially in the luxury motorcar market: Take Bentley for example!
What are Bentley best known for? Producing luxury cars for Very Important Person’s, the traditional Bentley’s will more often than not be at the higher end of the price range. They are a name synonymous with quality and prestige. Bentley’s do not come cheap hence why there are not many of them on the streets. (Unless you live in Chelsea or Knightsbridge that is!)
This luxury is also reflected in the design of the cars themselves. They are bigger vehicles rather than the smaller street smart city cars. Smaller cars will be able to zip in and out of that heavy city traffic, but Bentley’s are made to have a presence on the roads. Although not two seater sporty type cars- Bentley’s are ‘showy’ cars without a doubt!
How long can a manufacturing company like Bentley survive in today’s climate- will people want to buy luxury cars forever? There will always be a niche market with the Royal family here in the UK, also the Kings and Queens from overseas. But Bentley are upping their game! They have been working on creating a car that has it all! The showmanship as well as the practicality of a modern car.
The new and improved ‘Flying Spur’ will be revealed in March at the Geneva Motor show. It’s unlike it’s predecessor. It combines all the traditional aspects of a Bentley with up-to-the-minute modern motoring technology. The Flying Spur is set to be the fastest four-door that the company have ever created. It will have a 616 bhp (or Breaking Horse Power- a measurement used to determine the ‘power’ of a car’s engine) 6 litre engine. This W12 engine will push the car to 200mph quite easily.
The eight speed automatic transmission will drive all four wheels instead of just two in some cases. So this car will ‘feel’ very powerful to drive. It will have the speeds to go with that ‘power’. It will allegedly be able to reach speeds of 62 miles per hour from rest in only 4.3 seconds. Pretty fast for a larger saloon car. It has all the look and feel of a family estate but the feel of a more sporty motor. A wonderful car for those with the means who want the best of both worlds.
Taking a look at the exterior of the ‘Flying Spur’ for a moment and it is almost instantly recognizable as a Bentley by it’s over all style. If you happened to chance upon one driving down your road, you would guess right away. Once inside however, it’s a whole new world with a touchscreen system in place for the passengers in the back seats.
One will also find the upholstering top notch, hand crafted using the most quality materials available. The beautiful tailoring, plush seating and wooden finishes alone make this new model worth the price. There is also the choice of four or five seat configurations when choosing the Flying Spur as one’s next car.
For those who are interested in the new Flying Spur, you will have to wait as it is not out until the summer.
