Many of our driving instructors receive requests from people wanting to drive again after taking a break. There are so many reasons as to why people take those breaks. Perhaps major surgery has stopped you or someone you know from driving? Or maybe a car wasn’t affordable at the time? Running a vehicle can be expensive, there are not only the fuel costs to consider but also other running costs and insurance. So it’s no surprise that many take a break from driving and opt for public transport instead.
Whatever the case may have been, personal situation’s change all the time. Driving is essential- in fact many places in the world, even here in the U.K will require one to drive even to the local shops for a pint of milk.
Many people in this situation will often take a friend out in the car to a quiet spot, here they will take their first steps into driving again. While this is a good idea to help aid with confidence- it is not as effective as taking a few refresher lessons with a reputable driving school like Want Driving Lessons.
Want Driving Lessons know that so many people find it difficult to drive again after taking a break. This is the reason that we offer a comprehensive Refresher driving course for those wanting to get back into the driving seat.
Is this you? Do you know that certain someone who has been promising themselves that they will drive again? If so then Want Driving Lessons can help!
We recommend speaking to one of our advisers about enrolling on the Refresher course. However if you would like some time to consider this, we also offer singular lessons that you could take in the meantime. How many you need will depend on a few different factors, confidence and practice are two of the main ones. Some will feel ready after just a few lessons, while other will need a few more to refresh their driving skills.
A good idea would be to start with a two hour refresher lesson. Make a note of what you would like to focus on before you start your lesson. These area’s could cover parking, three point turnings, even driving down the busier roads and tackling larger roundabouts. After the first couple of hours you will know what areas you feel you might want to focus on more. Your Driving Instructor will be able to advise you on what they think you might need.
Realizing how much you have forgotten can be a little worrying, but don’t let that put you off. Once you have had a few lessons and have gained a little more confidence on the roads, you could do a little of your own practice to supplement what you are learning. This is a good confidence building exercise.
