Bad idea: Social network speeding

In this age of social media it is all too tempting to film ourselves doing those strange and original things and posting them online for the world to see. Anything from feeding puppies to jumping into a swimming pool with triple somersaults. Some of our most creative moments come when filming ourselves! But it does not pay to film ourselves doing EVERYTHING!

This week a 20 year old man who had filmed himself speeding around Manhattan last year was caught and subsequently arrested! The website and man in question known only as ‘AfroDuckProductions’ published his video online in late August last year. The short clip featured the young man driving his BMW Z4 3.0 Si through the twenty seven mile loop in the middle of New York. Although the film was made in the middle of the night, it was clear enough for police to fully identify the man in question.

But here’s the thing: The video was actually sped up for entertainment purposes, so it looked as though the driver had been travelling at light speed around the streets of one of the worlds most cosmopolitan cities! This was not noted by the police who believed him to be driving at ureasonable speeds. The whole eight minutes of the filmed drive is actually a very scenic tour of Manhattan after hours. The BMW is shown to be weaving in and out of traffic, accelerating hard and literally flying through those Manhattan underpasses. Although at around 66mph the driver was breaking the 45mph speed limit by quite a lot. He did however stop at six red lights as he drove, this however was not taken into consideration by the cops.

Arrested and charged with reckless driving, an example to anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to film their car stunts and post them- you just never know who is watching!
